It's Koekedoor time, Enter your Cake and win!

The popular Koekedoor team is coming to Stellenbosch on the 23rd of July, to add fun and zest to our Chocolate and Orange Cake Festival. We are hosting a unique event, combining the long-awaited launch of Errieda Du Toit's "Koekedoor 2" Baking book with a "Chocolate & Orange" themed Cake decorating competition, where anyone and everyone can enter their decorated cake to be judged and displayed in our foodie heaven hall. The focus will be squarely on creativity and decoration skills. The Koekedoor team will be our panel of judges, and visitors to our Stellenbosch market can expect to rub shoulders with some of the popular show's creators and cast members. The cake decorating competition is also open to junior decorators, so boys and girls who think they have what it takes are also able to enter. Proceeds from the (R50) cake entries will go towards the "Cupcakes for Kids with Cancer" charitable organization.

We are lining up several excellent prizes to be won, as well as official bragging rights, endorsed by our prestigious panel of judges. Entrants are free to take creative license and express their interpretations and understanding of the theme in any way that makes sense, provided oranges and chocolate form part of their created cake. Entering is easy- simply send your name, email and contact number along with the word "Cake" to: chocolateandorangecake@gmail.com

In addition to the above, all of our traders have also answered the call to get creative with the theme. Market visitors will find oranges and chocolate expressed in many different ways as they meander from stand to stand, meeting our quirky, characterful traders in person as they go. Artisanal chocolates, Orange-infused macaroons and preserves, chocolate-branded shoes all provide subtle hints of what is to come at the market.

We also encourage all market visitors to dress with some hint or influence of the colour Orange on the day. We are so excited to see you there!

Keep following us as we head into what promises to be an amazing "Chocolate & Orange Cake" festival at the end of July. For our Afrikaans readers, we have taken the liberty of adding the following information "in Afrikaans" for your convenience:

What we have for you this week:

Chris Du Plessis is our new Mussels-man! He specializes in providing market goers with fresh mussels and seaweed products. Come visit his stand for excellent mussels in white wine and garlic sauce, or for a host of healthy seaweed products and pestos. We are also hosting a live Marimba band, courtesy of Resound Boutique Music Agency- we look forward to see you there!
